COLOMBO (NewsRadio); International tenders will be called on Monday to import eggs to meet the current market demand.
The reasonability to import eggs following a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers has been handed over to the Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation.
Accordingly, the Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation said it is hoping to complete the tender process, the selection of importers and the calculation of the amount of eggs to be imported within next week.
The government is expected to notify the Corporation on the number eggs required to meet the current demand.
Considering the increase in prices and the shortage of eggs in the market, the Cabinet on the 2nd of January granted approval to a proposal submitted by the Minister of Trade to import eggs.
