A ten-day quarantine curfew will come into effect at 10pm today, the 20th of August.
Head of the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak Army Commander general Shavendra Silva said the island wide quarantine curfew will be effective till 4am on Monday the 30th of August.
The Army Commander said all essential services will be allowed to function including those in the apparel sector and agriculture industry while pharmacies will also be allowed to remain open.
The Army Commander added individuals’ part of essential services can report to work by proving their identity at checkpoints and will not require special permits.
General Silva stated that a special vaccination programme will be carried by the Tri-Forces and the health sector for individuals above 60 years of age who are yet to be vaccinated.
Meanwhile Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella requested all citizens to adhere to the law and stay at home.
