COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A total of 20 bids have been submitted to import eggs after tenders were called from importers.
The tenders were accepted yesterday, after the Cabinet decided to import eggs considering the increase in prices and the purported short supply.
The Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation has all tenders have been handed over to the Technical Committee of the Ministry of Trade for evaluation.
The State Trading Corporation also confirmed that all bidders submitted internationally recognized guarantee certificates.
The Corporation added that 90 percent of the bidders were from India.
Accordingly, the Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation said it is hoping to complete the tender process, the selection of importers and the calculation of the amount of eggs to be imported within this week.
Considering the increase in prices and the shortage of eggs in the market, the Cabinet on the 2nd of January granted approval to a proposal submitted by the Minister of Trade to import eggs.
