A technical committee has been appointed to obtain recommendations to promptly re-open 3,000 rural schools which have less than 100 students.
The President’s Media Division said the committee consists of officials in the health and education sectors.
The decision to appoint a committee has been taken during the meeting of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 earlier today.
Schools in Sri Lanka have been closed for several weeks following a spike in coronavirus cases.
The Ministry of Education had previously announced dates to conduct impending national exams.
However, following the spread of the Delta coronavirus variant, the decision to conduct exams and re-opening schools has been delayed.
