Teachers’ trade unions have decided to organise vehicle parades in several areas today as authorities have not yet provided proper solutions to their demands for the 23rd consecutive day.
Accordingly, motorcades will commence from Kadawatha, Kottawa, Moratuwa and Welisara and proceed to Colombo at the same time.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, the Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said a discussion was held at the Education Ministry premises with Ministers Prof. GL Peiris, Bandula Gunawardana and Gamini Lokuge in order to convey the decision reached by the Cabinet of Minister on Monday.
He said the Cabinet discussed the matter as a result of the meeting held with the Prime Minister the previous week where it was announced that a solution will be reached on Monday and will be conveyed to the trade unions yesterday.
Stalin however said no favourable decision had been reached by the Cabinet. The Chief Secretary of the Union urged the government to pay attention to their demands.
