Trade unions of the education sector have decided to seek the support of fellow trade unions to join the ongoing trade union action requesting the government to resolve teacher and principal salary anomalies.

Speaking to NewsRadio General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said the unions have decided to intensify protests and strike actions, since the government failed to provide solutions to their demands.

He noted the government promised to table a Cabinet Paper on Monday, adding however that Cabinet Papers were tabled last week and the week before, with no solution provided.

Stalin claimed the Presidential Secretariat has also failed to fulfil the promise to immediately appoint a committee and resolve salary anomalies.

Joseph Stalin stated teachers were arrested by Police for holding a protest who were later released on bail.

He claimed teachers are being suppressed adding that suppression cannot resolve the country’s issues.
