The Cabinet of Ministers has accepted the proposals included in the report compiled by the Ministerial subcommittee appointed to resolve the salary anomalies issue of teachers and principals.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has agreed to grant a Rs.5,000 monthly allowance to teachers and principals, until the proposals are included in the budget.
Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa has agreed to grant the allowance for two months during last evening’s weekly Cabinet meeting.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has decided to request the teachers to resume online teaching activities.
The strike action launched by teachers and principals demanding the government to resolve their long-standing salary anomalies issue enters its 51st day today.
Following the strike action, the Cabinet appointed a four-member ministerial committee to compile a recommendations report.
The committee comprises Ministers Dullas Alahapperuma, Prasanna Ranatunga, Wimal Weerawansa and Mahinda Amaraweera.
