The Ceylon Teachers’ Union says a massive protest will be staged across Colombo tomorrow, if the Cabinet Paper to provide solutions to the demands of teachers trade unions is not presented today.
General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said as part of the ongoing trade union action teachers withdrew from online teaching activities and refrained from applying for Advanced Level Examination paper marking and supervision duties.
He said the decision was reached when principal and teacher trade unions convened yesterday.
Stalin threatened to intensify their trade union action.
He noted that the Prime Minister informed that a Cabinet Paper will be tabled today and a discussion in this regard will be held tomorrow.
Joseph Stalin said teachers and principals expect favourable solutions.
He also urged the government to implement the ‘Subodhini’ committee report and make the teacher and principal service a closed service.
Stalin added in the event the Cabinet Paper is not implemented, they have organised a procession around Colombo and it will be carried out tomorrow.
He added the Education Secretary summoned all academic and non-academic staff of schools to work adding that they informed the Education Secretary in writing that they will not attend school.
Stalin requested all those engaged in the struggle to remain confident and positive until demands are met.
