The Ceylon Teachers’ Union says if favorable solutions are not provided regarding salary anomalies of teachers and principals through the Cabinet Paper due to be tabled today, the on-going trade union action will be intensified from tomorrow.
Speaking to NewsRadio Secretary of the Union Joseph Stalin said he expected favorable solutions to teachers’ concerns, and not criticism from Parliamentarians who represent the government.
Joseph Stalin said the Cabinet of Ministers is due to discuss the salary anomalies at today’s meeting, adding the matter was deliberated at two previous Cabinet meetings as well.
He noted following last week’s Cabinet meeting the government stated salary anomalies will be resolved through the next Budget, adding however it failed to announce the solution.
Stalin urged the government to resolve the matter, adding that on-going trade union action will continue until the issue is resolved.
He called on the government to implement the recommendations of the ‘Subodhini committee’ report and declare the teacher and principal service a closed service.
