The Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Alliance says it has decided not to submit applications for duty at the 2021 Advanced Level and Grade 5 Scholarship examinations as another step in trade union action initiated by teachers and principals.
The closing date for submitting applications is set for Wednesday this week.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, the Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said the government is attempting to sabotage trade union action by postponing the submission date.
Stalin said the Secretary to the Ministry of Education issued a statement claiming principals must take responsibility for not submitting applications.
He said they are against the statement adding trade unions already informed the Education Secretary according to the Trade Union Ordinance.
He said this statement was issued to intimidate principals. Stalin said this was a clear attempt at disrupting union action as schools are yet to reopen while examination dates have not been announced yet.
