Teacher unions have been summoned today to the Ministry of Education, to be informed of the outcome of the Cabinet meeting held yesterday, to resolve trade union action by teachers and principals islandwide based on several demands, including addressing salary anomalies.
Accordingly, teacher unions have been instructed to be present at the Ministry premises at 11am for a discussion with subject Minister GL Peiris.
Speaking to NewsRadio Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin said trade union action will be intensified if their demands are not met.
Stalin said today marks the 16th day of the union action.
He said Minister Peiris was due to table a Cabinet Paper yesterday pertaining to the matter.
Stalin added the aim of the discussion is to ensure suggestions submitted to five Additional Secretaries of the Education Ministry are implemented.
