The Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union says teachers and Principals of Sri Lanka can mark the 20th of January as a day of victory.

Speaking on social media, General Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said, Teachers and principals were able to obtain a salary where all anomalies were resolved.

He therefore communicated that the first phase of trade union action undertaken by teachers during the past few months will cease immediately.

He recalled that many did not believe the teachers would be successful in their struggle, but pushed through due to support from members.

Jayasinghe commented that everyone’s commitment to the cause resulted in a circular being issued on the 5th of January.

He said many who doubted the teachers were proved wrong, resulting in a massive victory for all teachers.
