The Sri Lanka Public Education Services Union says certain teacher trade unions are carrying out an anti-government protest by promoting salary anomalies.
Speaking during a media briefing today, the Chairperson of the Union, Wasantha Hadapangoda claimed a number of privileges have been created for teachers under President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour policy statement.
Hadapangoda said many promises including a solution for salary anomalies, converting science faculties to universities, awarding degrees to teachers, establishing secondary schools in all divisional secretariats and increasing the number of students accepted into universities.
The Chairperson said even if salaries anomalies are resolved, trade union leaders will not receive increments due to the lack of educational qualifications.
She added therefore trade union leaders are attempting to mislead teachers into engaging in anti-government protests.
Hadapangoda claimed there are foreign entities and non-governmental organisations behind such trade union leaders.
