The protest marches organised island wide by teacher-principal trade unions, based on several demands have been temporarily suspended.
Trade union leaders said a decision to postpone the protests were taken based on requests by health authorities considering the present situation in the country.
Unions reached a decision today to suspend the protest based on salary anomalies, that set off from Kandy to Colombo, at Pasyala owing to the COVID-19 situation.
However, union leaders speaking to media said they will continuously refrain from engaging in online teaching as part of the union action.
They claimed they will respect the decision by health authorities to suspend the protest.
Teachers and principals state, they are unafraid of the government’s continued suppression.
