Three school students and a tuition teacher have drowned when a boat sank in Thanthamale, Kokkadicholai, Batticaloa.

The teacher had attempted to save three students when they drowned this afternoon (12).

The 16 year old children and 27 year old teacher were reported missing after drowning.

The teacher and students who drowned were found by area residents.

Three teachers and 11 students had visited the area today.

The three students had boarded a dilapidated boat and set out when the boat began sinking mid journey.

The teacher drowned attempting to rescue the students.
