Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva says talks held between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and representatives of the SLFP including former President Maithripala Sirisena this morning was a success.
The Minister said several issues were discussed at the meeting, including creating an environment conducive to grassroots politics for SLFP representatives and creating an electoral system without preferential votes.
Speaking to media subsequent to the talks Minister de Silva said it was discussed to expedite amendments to the current process of introducing a new Constitution as cited in the President’s policy statement, ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’.
The Minister said they requested the President to look into bias actions towards trade unions and obtaining their support.
Minister de Silva said they also made a request to solve salary anomalies of teachers and to take steps to pay relevant sums in stages.
