Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has issued directives to officials to take prompt steps for the conservation of catchment areas in line with projects to provide drinking water to all citizens.
Speaking during a discussion with officials of the Ministry of Water Supply at the Temple Trees the Prime Minister instructed officials to formulate a joint programme with the Ministry of Environment to protect and conserve catchment areas.
Premier Rajapaksa said all families will have access to clean drinking water during the next three years, as the project to provide drinking water through pipes to all Grama Niladhari areas in the country is currently underway.
