The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has challenged the government to table the decision to declare a public emergency, in Parliament and pass the motion with 113 votes.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahuman said the President will have to revoke the order.
MP Rahuman urged the public to continue their struggle without any fear of the emergency declaration.
He said the opposition will also continue their struggle within Parliament and on the streets.
The Parliamentarian called on the present administration to convene Parliament to table the declaration for public emergency on either Monday or Tuesday instead of attempting to delay Parliamentary sessions.
On a separate note, MP Mujibur Rahuman said a new Deputy Speaker of Parliament will have to be elected once again during the next Parliamentary session.
He said with the recent developments, they received another opportunity to prove that the government does not possess a 113 majority in Parliament.
MP Rahuman said the SJB will discuss a nominee for the post of Deputy Speaker.
