HOBART (NewsRadio); Sri Lanka restricted Ireland to a below-par 128/8 in 20 overs in a Super 12 encounter of the 2022 Twenty20 World Cup in Hobart.
Harry Tector top scored for Ireland with 45 off 42 balls while opener Paul Stirling hit 34 in 25 deliveries.
For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana picked up 2/19 while Wanindu Hasaranga finished with figures of 2/25.
Sri Lanka managed to pick up wickets from the outset and the Irish could not take the game to the Lankan spinners at the latter stage of the innings.
The Lankan batters will now feel confident of chasing down the target and register the first win of the Super 12 stage at the Bellerive Oval.
Earlier this morning, Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie won the toss and elected to bat first against Sri Lanka.
