An individual wanted in connection with 15 gold chain snatchings in various parts of the country has been arrested while a foreign manufactured hand grenade has been seized from his possession.
Police said the 42-year-old suspect, a resident of Ragama, was arrested at the Polgahahena Junction last morning.
Police also arrested five other individuals, two of whom were involved in gold chain snatchings, and three others who assisted in selling the chains.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the suspects, between the ages of 28 and 42, are residents of Batuwatta, Ragama, Kandana, and Ja-Ela.
SSP Thalduwa said the chief suspect has several cases filed against him at the Mahara, Gampaha, Welisara and Negombo courts.
Further investigations revealed the Welisara and Negombo courts had issued warrants for the suspect’s arrest.
The Police Media Spokesman said 34g of gold from nine different chain snatchings and a motorbike were taken into custody.
