State Minister Dilum Amunugama says strict legal action will be taken against MP Rishad Bathiudeen pertaining to the incident in which he had allegedly levelled death threats at a prison doctor.
Speaking to media in Kandy, State Minister Amunugama said the Colombo Crimes Division recorded statements from the relevant doctor and prison officials pertaining to the incident.
He added Police will decide on further action based on the statements.
The State Minister claimed MP Bathiudeen had reportedly obstructed the doctor’s duties and leveled death threats at him. He noted investigations will be conducted into the matter.
Responding to allegations made by the opposition claiming MP Bathiudeen was arrested for political vengeance, the State Minister claimed if dealing with the Easter Attacks was political revenge, then the opposition is correct.
State Minister Amunugama noted that although MP Bathiudeen has claimed in Parliament that he is innocent, intelligence units have uncovered various details, adding that it will be revealed to the public in future.
