Health professionals have drawn the attention of the President towards the decision making mechanism of the Ministry of Health related to technical matters.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President of the Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists Ravi Kumudesh said senior officials of the Ministry of Health have even delayed taking decisions regarding funds allocated by the government for COVID-19 mitigation programmes.
Ravi Kumudesh said the decision making mechanism of the Ministry is inefficient regarding the treatment and identification of coronavirus patients.
He pointed out that state funds of around Rs.40 billion allocated to purchase much needed equipment such as PCR testing machines have been under-utilised.
The President of the Association accused authorities of failing to approve urgent tenders for three to four months.
Therefore, Kumudesh requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to intervene and solve the inefficiencies within the Health Ministry to procure equipment urgently needed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Kumudesh stressed solving technical deficiencies within the health sector must be made more efficient.
