The Ceylon Teachers’ Union says stern action will be taken if pledges made through the 2022 Budget, regarding the basic demand of the trade union struggle, are not fulfilled by January.
Chief Secretary Joseph Stalin said the 2022 Budget also failed to allocate six percent of the country’s GDP for education.
Stalin called for one third of the payment recommended in the Subodhini report, including the full payment proposed by the Cabinet Sub-Committee as a solution for the salary anomalies issue, be paid as promised.
Stalin called on authorities to present better solutions to students who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Union Secretary assured that increasing salaries of teachers would result in a better quality of service within the entire education system due to satisfaction of those involved in the sector.
