The Government Medical Laboratory Professionals Association says the statement by the government that nothing can be done to prevent the South African COVID-19 virus variant from entering the country, is irresponsible.
The Association said questions can be raised if a Ministry of Health is required in the country if such statements are being made, and if steps are being taken to deliberately inactivate measures to identify the variant at airport premises.
President of the Association Ravi Kumudesh said in order to free the country from being red listed, a better understanding of existing virus variants and the probability of virulence should be reduced.
He added failure to lockdown the country scientifically for ten days, will lead to the extension of the lockdown.
Kumudesh said a need has arisen to impose a stringent lockdown of ten days promptly.
