State workers claim they will launch a work to rule campaign if they are not granted a Rs.10,000 allowance from January.
The State and Provincial State Service Trade Unions Federation Chief Secretary Ajith K Thilekeratne speaking at a media briefing yesterday criticised the statement by the Minister of Finance that state sector workers are a burden to the government.
He said on the 13th of October they informed the government in writing of their economic situation and the severe impact it has had on state workers.
Thilekeratne said they requested a Rs.30,000 increment, however owing to the coronavirus situation and the hardships the government is faced with, they instead requested a Rs.10,000 allowance.
However, Thilekeratne said the requests were disregarded through the 2022 Budget proposal.
He claimed the state sector is unsettled as a result adding that they will reach further decisions pertaining to the work to rule campaign following discussions.
