The Court of Appeal has issued an interim order staying the implementation of recommendations made by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Political Victimisation in relation to Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara.
The Presidential Commission on Political Victimisation through its report recommended to name Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara as a respondent.
Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara then filed a petition against the Commission and its recommendations.
Accordingly, considering the petition, the three-member Court of Appeal bench comprising Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, Devika Abeyratne and DN Samarakoon issued a stay order.
The bench also granted leave to proceed.
The bench also issued notices on a number of respondents including the Chairman and the members of the Presidential Commission on Political Victimisation to appear in court on the 29th of September.
Chairman of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry Upali Abeyratne, its members Daya Chandrasiri Jayathilaka, Chandra Fernando and the Attorney General have been named as respondents.
Through the writ petition, Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara is seeking an order staying further proceedings of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry regarding a complaint made against him.
