Japan’s Foreign Minister Takei Shunsuke says the Japanese government will continue to render its support towards Sri Lanka in ensuring national reconciliation and reforms.
The Minister also assured a Yen 100 million donation to Sri Lanka to ensure such work can be carried forward.
Minister Shunsuke expressed his views during a meeting with Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe this morning (3).
Minister Rajapakshe thanked the Japanese government for coming forward to support Sri Lanka amidst the economic crisis adding that during the first six months the new government reached radical decisions and introduced 24 new laws to strengthen human rights and secure the rights of the people while the government has done a great deal in addressing issues of war-affected people in the North and East.
The Justice Minister added that 95 percent of land owned by individuals in the North and East have been returned to rightful owners.
The Minister also stated that steps have been taken to win over public trust by ensuring efficiency in the judicial system.
The Minister meanwhile thanks the Japanese Minister for supporting Sri Lanka’s efforts in ensuring national reconciliation through the Truth Seeking Commission.
