COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena has instructed Sri Lanka Railways not to cancel 42 train journeys as planned from today.
Yesterday, Sri Lanka Railways announced that 42 trains will be cancelled from today (12) until further notice due to the shortage of employees.
Accordingly, several office trains and other train journeys were expected to be cancelled from today.
According to the statement by Sri Lanka Railways, 20 trains along the Main Railway line, four along the Puttalam Railway line, two along the Kelani Valley Railway line and 16 along the Coastal line were expected to be cancelled from today.
However, following the intervention of Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Sri Lanka Railways has announced that the decision has been suspended.
Meanwhile, Railway unions earlier this month stated that the retirement of nearly 500 railway employees as of the 31st of December 2022 have led to the disruption of train journeys.
