Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka claims the time is apt to build unity amongst Buddhist nations.
Speaking at a programme organised in line with poya today, MP Ranawaka said such ties will be crucial during difficult periods.
The MP said Sri Lanka must improve ties with countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
He noted that when Sri Lanka is in a crisis, foreign support is lacking, as countries that seek to extend support expect political gain in return.
MP Ranawaka said countries with such ties include Arab countries, Anglican, European Catholic, and Orthodox countries while Sri Lanka lacks ties with predominately Buddhist countries.
MP Ranawaka added a Sri Lanka Sangha Council should be established, that can contribute to the Buddha sasana as well.
