Sri Lanka has detected another 160 cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
The University of Sri Jayewardenepura said the Omicron variant was identified in 182 biosamples obtained from COVID-19 positive persons.
A majority of the samples were obtained from individuals at the Bandaranaike International Airport upon arrival.
The University said the report on the samples will be handed over to the Director-General of Health Services today.
45 individuals were previously detected with the Omicron variant in Sri Lanka.
All Omicron infections were identified through sample tests conducted by the Medical Faculty of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
