Sri Lanka and the world ushered in Christmas.
Christmas marks the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on the 25th of December as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world.
Today is a public holiday in most countries, and is celebrated religiously by a majority of Christians, as well as culturally by many non-Christians, and forms an integral part of the holiday season.
In Sri Lanka, Christmas will take a different tone due to political turmoil, the ensuing economic crisis and the number of hardships that followed.
This year Christmas also comes following two consecutive years of bring riddled with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Though the Christmas hustle and bustle was less this year in comparison to yesteryears, Colombo was in all its grandeur with the mainstream hotels bringing light to the city for the season while several festivities were also organised by various groups and individuals.
One such location that was seen lit up is the Presidential Secretariat which was the hub for the people’s struggle not long ago.
Several festivities have also been organised by Sri Lanka Tourism at the Lotus Tower to promote Sri Lanka.
