COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Sri Lanka and Russia hold discussions pertaining to the Memorandum of Understanding signed for nuclear energy cooperation.
Discussions in this regard were held during a meeting between Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera and Russian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Levan Dzhagaryan this morning.
Sri Lanka and Russia in 2013 signed a MoU to facilitate vocational training for Sri Lankan nuclear scientists in Russia.
The agreement included managing nuclear and radiation safety issues and development of nuclear technology infrastructure in Sri Lanka.
In 2018, Russia and Sri Lanka again held talks on establishing cooperation for the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The Ministry of Power and Energy said Subject Minister Kanchana Wijesekera held talks with the Russian Ambassador regarding the MoU signed for nuclear energy cooperation with Rosatom.
Meanwhile, during today’s meeting both parties have discussion energy sector requirements of Sri Lanka, refinery operations and also challenges in procuring coal for power generation.
