The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the cancellation of the spot and term tender for the procurement of coal.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said the decision was reached on the recommendation of the technical committee and the procurement committee.
Minister Wijesekera said both were canceled as the bidders had failed to meet the qualification criteria and failed to comply with the tender guidelines, that are major deviations.
The Minister noted that approval was accordingly given to the procurement committee to call for proposals from prospective suppliers and government to government proposals, on a long term credit basis.
He said the requirements for the months of November and December will be fulfilled by advancing last years term tender coal supplies.
