Zimbabwe posted an impressive 296 losing nine wickets after opting to bat first against hosts Sri Lanka in the 1st One Day International at the Pallekel International Stadium in Kandy.
Takudzwanshe Kaitano and Regis Chakabva got off to a solid start and then passed the baton to Sean Williams who played a stunning knock to bring up his fifth ODI ton off only 86 balls.
The wicket did aid the Lankan spinners a little and the slower ball was effective.
However Zimbabwe showed great application with the bat and carried on collecting the runs at a good pace and just missed the 300 mark. It was a near perfect batting display from the visitors.
The hosts will be under pressure in their quest to make 297.
Chakabva added 72 runs to the visitors tally while Kaitano contributed a quick fire 42.
All Lanka bowler were expensive, with Chamika Karunaratne the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 for 69.
Nuwan Pradeep claimed two wickets and was expensive with 54 while returning Jeffrey Vandersay also bagged two wickets with another expensive 44 coming off him.
