All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been named in the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2021.
The ICC Team of the Year recognises 11 outstanding individuals who have impressed in a calendar year.
Pakistan’s Babar Azam has been named as the captain of the team.
Babar Azam in 2021 played 29 matches and aggregated 939 runs at an average of 37.56 with one century and nine half-centuries.
Pakistan duo Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi have also been included in the ICC T20I team of the year.
It also includes South African trio Aiden Markram, David Miller and Tabraiz Shamsi, Australian duo Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazlewood, England’s Jos Buttler and Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman.
Hasaranga, who established himself as one of the best spinners in the shortest format while also being a player who could contribute with the bat had a breakthrough year in 2021.
Hasaranga also starred during the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman, ending the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps.
Overall, he picked up 36 wickets in 20 matches at 11.63, while also scoring 196 runs in 2021.
