Four students of the University of Peradeniya have been arrested by Police yesterday, for intimidating authorities and officers during the second One Day International against Australia at the Pallekele Stadium.

The students, between the ages of 24 and 28, are residents of Akuramboda, Kurunegala, Koslanda and Kekirawa.

Police said a group, allegedly under the influence had threatened and intimidated Policemen at the venue using profanity during the ticket checking process of spectators.

A statement issued by the Office of the Police Media Spokesman said the Police officers were attempting to control the group, when several of them attempted to assault the officers on duty.

Police later arrested the four suspects. They will be produced before the Teldeniya Magistrate’s Court today.
