Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 65 runs in the Super League 5th place playoff semifinals of the U-19 World Cup in Antigua yesterday.
Sri Lanka gave South Africa a target of 233, which the latter failed to chase.
South Africa were bowled out for 167 in 37.3 overs.
Dunith Wellalage led the way for Sri Lanka Under-19 with a 130-ball 113 to help his side down South Africa Under-19 by a comfortable margin of 65 runs.
Ranuda Somarathne, batting at No.6, also made a vital contribution for Sri Lanka U19 with an undefeated 57 off 70 balls.
On the other hand, Kwena Maphaka returned noteworthy figures of 3 for 60.
While looking to chase down a competitive target, Ronan Hermann (34) and Gerhadus Maree (44) looked to anchor the innings, but both of them couldn’t convert starts into big scores.
Treveen Matthew, Shevon Daniel and Raveen de Silva made incisions at regular intervals and shared two scalps each for Sri Lanka U19.
Sri Lanka had finished top of Group D after wins over Australia, West Indies and Scotland.
They, however, were upset by Afghanistan in the Super League quarter-finals. South Africa, on the other hand, finished second behind India in Group B.
After losing to India, they defeated Uganda and Ireland but were beaten by England in the Super League quarter-finals.
