At stumps, Niroshan Dickwella was unbeaten on 42 while Dunith Wellalage was on 6.
The pair had put on 25 runs for the sixth wicket before umpires ended proceedings for the day.
Sri Lankan openers Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne put on 92 runs for the opening wicket after Sri Lanka opted to bat first last morning.
Skipper Karunaratne was the first man to be dismissed for 40 while Fernando went onto make a fifty.
Angelo Mathews who is playing in his 100th Test match was dismissed for 42 while Dinesh Chandimal who is in sublime form in recent weeks scored 80 runs.
Dhananjaya de Silva was the last man to be dismissed for 33 runs.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Nawaz picked up two wickets while Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali and Yasir Shah picked up a wicket apiece.
