Sri Lanka has climbed to ninth in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League standings after winning the first ODI against South Africa by 14 runs last evening.
Brilliant bowling at the death from Sri Lanka helped them restrict the Proteas to 286/6, to clinch the series opener in Colombo.
Earlier, a stunning century from Avishka Fernando powered the home team to 300/9.
Sri Lanka secured 10 points following the win. Sri Lanka now has 32 points in 13 Super League games.
The ICC Cricket World Cup Super League Table is led by England who has 95 points while Bangladesh and Australia remain second and third respectively.
India is placed fourth in the standings with 49 points and if Sri Lanka secures a 3-0 series win against South Africa, the Dasun Shanaka led team can leapfrog India to India to fourth in the standings.
The second ODI between Sri Lanka and South Africa will be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo tomorrow.
