Opener Pathum Nissanka who managed 56, combined with skipper Karunaratne to put on 139 for the first wicket.
Dinesh Chandimal at the latter part of the innings scored a valuable 45.
For the West Indies, Roston Chase was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 5/83.
Jomel Warrican had figures of 3/87 while Shannon Gabriel finished with 2/69.
