S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia narrowly defeated Trinity College Kandy 17-14 to win the Canon De Saram Shield at Havelock Park a short while ago.

The traditional rugby encounter lived up to its expectation on the field as both sets of players were unwilling to cede advantage.

Trinity led 14-03 at lemons but Thomians managed to plant two converted tries and keep the boys from Kandy at bay during the business end of the game to take home the shield.

After the end of the encounter though, things turned ugly as several scuffles broke out at Havelock Park much to the dismay of onlookers.
