A protest was staged opposite Sri Lanka Cricket this afternoon demanding the inclusion of national cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the squad for the Twenty20 series against India.
The protesters claim it is unjust to remove Rajapaksa from the squad on the basis of fitness.
Bhanuka completed the 2km fitness training, yet was dropped from the India tour owing to his failure to meet the skinfold test.
The matter was discussed in Parliament today.
Parliamentarian Sujith Sanjaya questioning Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa this morning said Bhanuka’s fitness level was not questioned when he was picked for the Indian Premier league at the recent auction.
Minister Rajapaksa said the Selection Committee, SLC the administration and Mahela Jayawardene the Consultant Coach finalised the squad for the series.
The Minister said in the past allegations were levelled that the team was picked based on influence adding that this led to the team failing over the years.
Minister Rajapaksa added Bhanuka Rajapaksa is a talented player and has a bright future adding he believes Bhanuka will make a good comeback.
