Authorities have commenced investigations into the Manager of the Sri Lankan National Wrestling team deserting athletes during the World Wrestling Championship in Oslo, Norway.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Wrestling Federation Sarath Hewawitharana said the team departed Sri Lanka on the 1st of October from the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Immigration officers discovered three passports concealed in the bag of the Team Manager.
He said complaints have been lodged with both local and international bodies including the Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, the Director at the Department of Sports Development and the Criminal Investigation Department.
The Sri Lankan National Wrestling team was placed 32nd among 72 countries that participated in the World Wrestling Championship in Norway.
The team returned from Norway yesterday.
