Colombo Stars claimed a decisive 41-run win over Galle Gladiators via the DLS method in a rain-affected 2021 Lanka Premier League encounter at the R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo last evening.
The game was reduced to an 18-over contest due to rain delays and the Stars after winning the toss went on to post a challenging 162/7 in their allotted overs.
Returning Colombo Skipper Angelo Mathews hit an impressive 73 off 57 deliveries which included eight boundaries and three maximums.
At the tail end of the innings, Dinesh Chandimal hit the bowlers apart scoring 36 off just 14 balls.
He hit four boundaries and two maximums in his brief innings.
For Galle, Dhananjaya Lakshan and Samit Patel picked up two wickets apiece. Galle struggled to chase down the target from the outset and was eventually bundled out for 121 runs in 16.5 overs.
At the top, Kusal Mendis scored 64 from 39 balls but could not take his side home as other batters faltered before some tight bowling by the Colombo Stars.
Naveen-ul-Haq was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 3 for 27 while Seekkuge Prasanna and Ravi Rampaul took two wickets each.
Today, table toppers Jaffna Kings will take on Dambulla Giants at the same venue in another LPL 2021 encounter.
