Colombo Stars secured a hard-fought four-wicket win over Galle Gladiators in the third game of the Lanka Premier League tournament at the R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo last evening.
Chasing a below-par 117-run target, the Stars lost six wickets in the process and took 17.3 overs to secure the win.
Their top order failed to fire but Dinesh Chandimal, Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and David Wiese made 20s to canter home.
Nuwan Thushara and Pulina Tharanga picked up two wickets apiece for the Gladiators. Earlier, Galle Gladiators won the toss and elected to bat first but could only muster 116/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Ben Dunk top-scored with 38 off 25 balls while in the latter part of the innings Isuru Udana hit 25 off 17 deliveries.
Man-of-the-match Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushmantha Chameera and Akila Dananjaya took two wickets each.
In yesterday’s first game, Dambulla Giants claimed a comfortable 20-run win over Kandy Warriors at the same venue.
The win was scripted by Niroshan Dickwella who made an immediate impact after his months-long ban and combined with Phil Salt to bat the Warriors out of the game.
Kandy could not keep up with the massive 191-run target from the start and lost their opening game of the 2021 LPL.
Meanwhile, unbeaten Dambulla Giants will be in action once again today taking on Jaffna Kings at 3pm in Colombo.
The second game of the day will see Galle Gladiators locking horns with Kandy Warriors at 7.30pm.
