Australia posted a respectable 291/6 in their allotted 50 overs against Sri Lanka in the third One-Day International of the five-match series at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium Colombo.
Sri Lankan bowlers spearheaded by Jeffrey Vandersay managed to remove the Australian top order cheaply but Travis Head and the middle order finished the innings impressively scoring 98 in the last 10 overs.
Head finished unbeaten on 70 off 65 balls while skipper Aaron Finch scored 62 off 85 deliveries.
Alex Carey scored 49 from 52 balls while Glenn Maxwell hit 33 in just 18 deliveries.
For Sri Lanka, Vandersay finished with figures of 3/49 while Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushmantha Chameera and Dunith Wellalage took a wicket apiece.
Earlier, Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat first.
Sri Lanka today brought Niroshan Dickwella into the playing XI in place of Danushka Gunathilaka. Dickwella is expected to open the batting.
Gunathilaka was ruled out of the game due to a hamstring strain.
Meanwhile, Australia have made three changes from the side that lost to Sri Lanka in the second game in Kandy.
Steve Smith was ruled out due to an injury and was replaced by Mitchell Marsh who came back off a calf injury.
Cameron Green and Jhye Richardson were also included in the playing XI in place of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Swepson.
Skipper Dasun Shanaka at the toss said his team is confident of chasing after their performances in Kandy.
Sri Lanka won the third Twenty20 International against Australia at the Pallekele International Stadium chasing 177 runs.
They also won the second ODI on Thursday by 26 runs under the DLS method.
The series is level on 1-1.
