Sri Lanka Cricket has imposed a one-year ban from all forms of international cricket on Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella.
The ban has been imposed after the trio was found guilty of breaching the bio-secure bubble during the recent tour to the United Kingdom.
Sri Lanka Cricket in a statement said the SLC Executive Committee which met today gave consideration to the recommendations of the Panel of Inquiry, and in further consideration of the impact to the individual players, and their contribution to the national team, decided unanimously to impose bans on Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella.
Accordingly, all three players will be banned from playing international cricket for one year and domestic cricket for six months. Upon completion of the one- year ban, each player will be subjected to a further ban of one year from playing international cricket which will be suspended for a period of two years.
A fine of Rs.10 Million for each player has also been imposed by SLC while the players are expected to undergo mandatory counselling under a doctor recommended by SLC.
Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella have been found guilty of breaching Covid-19 safety guidelines, instructions and regulations of the team Management and by the said act putting into jeopardy the safety of the players, fellow team members and others involved during the tour, violating the instructions and regulations of the team Management with regard to the team curfew while also bringing disrepute to Sri Lanka Cricket and the country.
