The Sri Lankan 2020 Paralympic team including gold medalist Dinesh Priyantha Herath and bronze medalist Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku will arrive in the island today.
The Ministry of Sports has taken steps to welcome the two paralympic medalists who are due to land at the Bandaranaike International Airport at 5.10pm, with a red carpet at the VIP terminal.
Members of the Sri Lankan contingent are due to undergo PCR tests upon arrival.
A special media briefing is also due to be held with Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa, Dinesh Herath and Dulan Kodithuwakku.
After the welcome ceremony they will be directed to a hotel to undergo quarantine procedure.
The Sports Ministry has approved prize money of Rs.50 million to be awarded to Dinesh Priyantha Herath after he secured the first ever Paralympic gold medal when he won the javelin Men’s F-46 category with a throw of 67.79m and also set a new world record, and Rs.20 million for Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku, who won the bronze medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw F64 event.
Additionally Sri Lanka Cricket is due to award prize money of Rs.10 million to Dinesh Priyantha.
