Sri Lanka Test Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne says the performances of spinners will be key during the Test series against Australia to be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka will take on Australia in a two-match Test series starting on the 29th of June. Speaking during the pre-series media briefing in Colombo today, Skipper Karunaratne acknowledged that Australia has a formidable line-up but said his spinners can be a handful especially on the Galle deck where both Test matches will be played.
The Test captain also expected the Sri Lankan players to raise their game especially playing in front of the home crowd after several months. He said players have been given specific tasks under new Head Coach Chris Silverwood.
Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne added Test specialists will commence training tomorrow.
He was of the view that the team is confident in toppling the Australian team despite being faced with a number of challenges including predicted heavy showers.
Meanwhile, SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva said 14,000 match tickets for the series have been sold online.
He said the online platform is used by a majority of the fans considering the current climate.
Mohan de Silva added revenue from tickets sales will be handed over to authorities to help people going through hardships due to the current economic climate.
