China finished on top of the Medals Table at the end of Day Two of the competitions at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.
China’s six gold medals came in Diving, Fencing and Shooting events and three from Weightlifting. It has also secured a silver medal and four bronze medals for a total of 11.
Hosts Japan remains second in the standings with five gold medals including three in Judo events and a silver medal.
The United States has won four golds, two silvers and four bronze medals and is ranked third. South Korea is placed fourth with two golds and three bronze medals.
The Russian Olympic Committee is placed fifth with on the Medals Table with one gold, four silvers and two bronze medals.
12 other countries have also won gold medals at this year’s Olympic Games thus far. 42 nations in total have secured at least one medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games which officially commenced on Friday.
Neighbours India has won a silver medal in Weightlifting and is currently placed 25th in the standings.
Meanwhile, two more Sri Lankan stars will feature at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan today.
Sri Lanka’s national Judo champion Chamara Nuwan Dharmawardana will be in action for the first time at the Tokyo Games this morning.
Dharmawardana will take part in the Judo Men’s 73kg Elimination Round of 32.
Elimination Round encounters are scheduled to get underway from 7:30am Sri Lanka time.
Badminton Ace Niluka Karunaratne will meanwhile feature in another Group F encounter of the Men’s Singles draw this afternoon. Karunaratne will meet Ireland’s Nguyen Nhat at 3.50pm Sri Lanka time in a group encounter.
He was beaten 2-0 by Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Wei Wang in his first game on Saturday.
Wang defeated Karunaratne 21-12 and 21-15.
Meanwhile, yesterday, youngster Milka Gehani de Silva failed to progress to the finals of the Women’s All-Around Artistic Gymnastics event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after finishing 78th during the qualifying stage.
Milka Gehani totalled 45.798 points at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in the subdivision two with top 24 gymnasts qualifying for the finals of the Women’s All-Around event to be held on Thursday.
